Engine · v1

Geometry in. A measured bill out.

Bill of Quantities software for civil engineering tenders.

The same model, rendered against whichever standard your tender runs on: CESMM4, NRM 2, SMM7 or MMHW. Deterministic: the same inputs always return the same bill.

The bill is a function of the geometry. Quantities only, never rates — you bring your rates, prelims and site-wide numbers.

These are the assemblies most civils tenders turn on. Parametric, not exhaustive — and growing: browse every one in the calculators catalogue, or see how the engine is built.

§ 02 · Six assemblies, free — no sign-up

Free to evaluate — no account, no card
  • End-area earthworks
  • Attenuation tank
  • Cantilever retaining wall
  • Gully + connection
  • Headwall
  • Precast manhole

Free covers six assemblies, measured to MMHW, anonymous and rate-limited — the on-screen bill, the dimensioned drawing, and a watermarked, locked-cell Excel that still shows the full per-row audit derivation, for evaluation rather than tender submission. The other 40 assemblies, the other three standards (CESMM4, NRM 2, SMM7), clean Excel, DXF and dimensioned PDF unlock on any paid tier.

§ 03 · One assembly, measured to CESMM4

Headwall · engine output · the same model renders NRM 2 · SMM7 · MMHW too

Per-row audit trail

Every line traces back to a source work item — no black box. The bill ships with a backup tab that shows each derivation in full.

E.4.3.2 · excavation · 3.77 m³
Pit volume
L_pit × W_pit × D_pit
2.9 × 4.0 × 0.325 = 3.77 m³

A worked example — the headwall assembly rendered by the engine from default parameters. Shown here in CESMM4; the same model renders NRM 2, SMM7 and MMHW. Quantities only — you add the rates.

What v1 ships

In scope.

  • Measured works for the parametric civils assemblies in the catalogue below
  • Dimensioned drawings (DXF + dimensioned PDF) ready for downstream procurement use
  • Audit-trail BoQ in your chosen measurement methodology — CESMM4, NRM 2, SMM7 or MMHW — with a measured-quantities backup tab
  • Per-row audit trail — every line traceable back to the source work item
Bring your own

Out of scope.

  • Project preliminaries (CESMM4 §A · NRM2 Group 1 · MMHW Series 100)
  • Site clearance, demolition, bulk earthworks at project scale
  • Structures outside the catalogue · M&E · finishes
  • Project-level rates · contractor pricing · prelims rates

No fabricated customers. No drawing import. Quantities only — rates are yours, liability is yours.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions.

What is CivilQuants?
CivilQuants is Bill of Quantities software for civil engineering. You enter the geometry of an assembly and it returns a measured bill built to your tender's standard, with a full audit trail behind every quantity.
Which measurement standards does CivilQuants support?
Four UK standards: CESMM4, NRM2, SMM7 and MMHW. The same model is measured against whichever standard your tender runs on, so the quantities stay consistent while the codes and descriptions change.
Is there a free version of CivilQuants?
Yes. The free tier covers six assemblies measured to MMHW with Excel export, at no cost and no card. Paid tiers add the full assembly catalogue, all four standards, DXF and PDF drawings, Word reports and saved projects.
Can CivilQuants produce a material schedule for procurement?
Yes. Every calculation aggregates the material quantities, including concrete, reinforcement, fill, pipe and geotextile, so the same model gives you both a tendering Bill of Quantities and a supplier-neutral material take-off for ordering.
How reliable are the quantities?
The engine is deterministic: the same inputs always return the same bill, measured in accordance with the rules of the chosen standard, with an audit trail showing how every quantity was derived.
Does CivilQuants work with AI assistants like Claude?
Yes. CivilQuants runs as an MCP server, so you can generate a Bill of Quantities directly inside Claude and other MCP-capable assistants, as well as in the web app.
